Definition

A cut list is the production-floor instruction set for cutting. Generated from the quoted scope, it details every part with dimensions, material grade, quantity, edge treatment and any special notes. Modern cut lists also reference the source slab/board to enable yield tracking.

Example

Worked exampleA kitchen cut list specifies 14 cabinet sides at 720 × 580 mm in 18mm cabinet ply, 28 shelves at 380 × 540 mm in 18mm MFC, 14 backs at 720 × 600 mm in 6mm hardboard. Each part is sourced from a tracked board.

Why it matters

Cut lists generated from a quote (rather than re-typed) preserve dimensions and material spec exactly as accepted. Cut lists with source-board tracking enable real yield measurement instead of theoretical wastage assumptions.
