Definition
A QC (quality control) checkpoint is a named, owned moment in the production flow where work is verified against criteria before the stage closes. Most shops need three or four QC checkpoints — not one per stage. Each checkpoint has criteria, an owner, and a fail action (pause, return, escalate).

Worked exampleMid-assembly QC verifies the carcass is square, glued correctly, and joined to spec. End-of-finishing QC verifies the finish is even and free of defects. Pre-install QC verifies site readiness against the install checklist.
Why it matters
QC at the end of every stage is overkill — it adds friction without surfacing many issues. QC at zero stages is negligent. The right placement is at the moments where downstream rework cost is highest.
